Ces petits bancs bizarres sont en ligne sous les pergolas, à droite de l'image. Ils permettent à une seule personne de s'assoir, ne sont pas confortables car faits de lattes en bois séparées les unes des autres, et ils sont trop hauts pour que la plupart des gens puissent mettre les pieds par terre. Et pourtant, ce sont bien des bancs!..
(Au fond, le joli petit musée d'histoire de Menton)

You can find them on the first picture, on the right, under the pergolas.

They are strange:

Too large for one, too short for two. Uncomfortable , because of those kinds of planks which with they are made. And when you sit on them, they are too high, and your feet don't touch the floor anymore.

Anyway, they are real benches!...

Ce banc en bois suit l'arrondi du petit promontoire sur lequel se trouve l'oeuvre d'art moderne;
Il est donc à ce jour je crois, le plus long banc que j'ai trouvé!

This wooden bench runs around the whole place where the work of art is standing.
So I think it's the longest bench I've ever found!

Ce banc est situé dans la paroi de la plus haute coupole de la Basilique Saint-Pierre.
Il y en a tout autour, afin d'offrir une vue panoramique, dont voici un exemple, juste en dessous...

Their statue is near the famous Villa Medicis, and there's a wonderful sight above the roofs of the city from there.

Pourquoi vieux?
Ce genre de banc existait déjà lorsque j'étais enfant, il a donc quelques décennies..:-))
Pourquoi riche?
Les gens s'amusaient à coincer des pièces de monnaie dans les cercles de la structure.Une fois là, on ne pouvait plus les ressortir. C'etait un peu comme ceux qui laissent des graffiti aujourd'hui, on laissait une trace de son passage.
Si vous aggrandissez le cliché, vous verrez mieux les pièces, sur la droite de la photo. Certaines sont des ANCIENS francs, c'est-à-dire que le banc date au moins de 1960!...

Why old?

Those benches already existed when I was a child.So, it is some decades old :-)).

Why rich?

People used to wedge some money in the circles in the metal ; It was like writing graffiti today, a way to show you were there.After, it was impossible to take the money back.

If you enlarge the picture, you'll see on the right side f the picture that some of this money is Ancient francs, a french money used only until the beginning of the sixties.. This bench is at least 50 years old!

Au milieu , où il y a du sable, les gens jouent aux boules, discutent..
Autour, on a délimité le terrain de jeu par des pierres, et on en a mis de plus grosses , pour pouvoir s'assoir, et encore discuter, et regarder les gens jouer aux boules...

In the middle, where there is sand, people can talk and play with bowles (a typical game from south of France).

Around the sand, there are stones, as fences for the game place; and among those stones, there are bigger stones to sit down, talk again, and look at the others playing with bowles...
