Makesmewonder what those benches face and why they aren't facing all the statues. . . I guess they are simple benches so as to not take away from the importance of the statues in the area?

They are facing the place, which is very, very, very big! And on the other side of the place ,there are almost the same statues, and an other fountain, also surrounded with the same benches. In fact , where ever you sit, you see the place, statues, and a fountain!..
