Must be a game of sorts. I will have to Google it.

To answer yoru question on my other blog. . . the trails were a part of the Salmon Creek Greenway and not the trail Dorothy was instrumental in setting up. BUT because of her and other walking enthusiasts in our town, we have several long trails that are paved around our city.

Pétanque is a very famous and typical game in the East-South of France.
you play it with heavy metal bowls (two for each player), and a smaller wood bowl, which is a kind of target, and which is called "cochonnet";You can play alone, or in a team, there are national competitions, people often bet a lot of money..;most of players are men, and generally, old men, who retired from work;
When I took the photo, it was early in the morning;but in the afternoon, there are PLENTY of men playing;in summer, they often play until midnight or even later!
In fact, this game is so popular that the cities are OBLIGED to keep places to allow this game in east-south of France...
And about trails, I find great to have such beautiful and protected places to walk;I go walking almost every morning, but it's always in the city, and to find quiet places is not easy, that's why I go early in the morning.
